An old song on the new album?

Allow me to speculate for a moment. Each Queens of the Stone Age record has featured at least one track taken from (or based on a song on) the Desert Sessions (Avon, Monsters in the Parasol, Millionaire, Hangin’ Tree, In My Head and Make It Wit Chu). So – assuming this trend continues – which Desert Sessions track will appear on QOTSA’s upcoming album?

As some of the fine members over at Forum (which you should check out if you have not already) pointed out, a line from the message that appeared in Mojo Magazine last December (“A stitch in time”) was taken from the song Holey Dime, which was written and performed by Alain Johannes and appeared on Desert Sessions Volume 10: I Heart Disco.

Does that mean for sure that Holey Dime will appear somewhere on the new album? Of course not – Queens loves to tease its fans and this could all end up being terribly inaccurate speculation on my part. However, Holey Dime is an awesome song either way, so you should listen whether or not it ends up on the album (YouTube posting of the song is below). It reminds us all how incredibly talented and criminally underrated Mr. Johannes really is.

The fade is back to kicking ass

Not a bad song to have on there. Crazy that it’s been almost 10 years since the last DS record. Personally, I’d love it if they re-recorded Screamin’ Eagle, but that isn’t going to happen.

  3. SB says:

Screamin’ Eagle, Johnny The Boy, and Crawl Home would be my picks for Desert Sessions re-recordings. I’d love if they got PJ Harvey back to do that last song again.

The slide guitar at the start of the song sounds awesome and makes me feel like I’m running in a dream. Give me more of that…

good to see this site is back alive! keep it coming

I’d love to see Powered Wig Machine get redone. Although Crawl Home is the easy answer here. Or go old school and do A#1

  7. Mike says:

try to immagine it sung by the Ginger Elvis! (with all respect to Alain Johannes though)
